Ky Woods took the final spot on the podium with his 2-4 results while Koby Hantis registered his best finish of the season with a fourth on the back of 7-3 finishes.
Woods was out for some redemption after losing valuable points at the previous round. He slingshot from the gate in race one and took the lead with authority. He and series rival, Kayd Kingsford, cleared out from the pack and then with a handful of laps left, it was down to a race in two. Kingsford had the momentum and was closing in on Woods. Woods tried to up the pace and intensity but made a couple of mistakes that allowed Kingsford to get onto the rear wheel and then into the lead.
Woods tried to fight back but couldn’t make anything happen and had to settle for a second place in race one.
The second moto got under way and Woods was floundering after a poor start. He was barely inside the top ten and left in the chaos of the opening lap with riders going everywhere. He was able to stay on two wheels and slowly work his way through the pack but by the time he finally got some clear air, the leading trio were well down the track, and it was too much distance to make up before race end. He finished on fourth and that gave him third for the day.
“Not a great day for me and I need to be better. I let the lead slip late in race one and then got a terrible start in race two and both cost me a lot of points. We still have plenty of races to go, but I need to step and start clawing these points back,” Woods said.
Koby Hantis had been showing signs of improvement in the first three rounds after his pre-season injury, but the weekend showed his best isn’t far away as he finished with 7-3 results and proved to be back near the pace that saw him lead the MX3 championship for long periods in 2024.
Hantis recovered from an average start in race one to finish seventh, but a much better start in race two saw him near the front for the entire race and match the pace of the leading riders. It was a good reward for his continued hard work.
“Today was another good step in the right direction and it was good to give myself and the team a decent result. It’s not where it sure by but I can feel it’s coming and now that I can see the led guys, it will come back even faster.
“Thanks to the team for sticking by me and from now on, the goal is to be a consistent podium guy for races and rounds,” Hantis said.
